Did you see the picture of the IR sensor next to the quarter? That's a nice picture of a quarter. Not great, but considering how crisp it is compared to the actual item being sold next to it, it's a pretty good picture of a quarter! The IR Sensor is really nice too though. 38 Khz which is pretty standard. Works great with 940nm LEDs which are also pretty standard. Not like that picture of the quarter, that's not a standard picture at all. That's nice. But the sensor is a small IR receiver for remote control or maybe some robotics applications. It features separate PIN diode and preamplifier IC with a special built in Infrared filter. It's a MIM 5383H4 which operates from 5V DC at 2mA. Size 0.23" Width x 0.31" Height (which doesn't include the pins). The sensor has a metal case for shielding against electric field disturbance and features a high immunity against the ambient light that seems to be everywhere nowadays. Complete specs available on the internet. Will work fine in a solderless bread board but you will have to bend the clamps that are on the frame up out of the way. Which you will probably need to do anyway for a proto board as well. Man that's a good picture of a quarter...
